Course architect Tom McBroom routed the rolling layout above the lake, notching the greens into the hillsides and accenting the tree-lined fairways with flashes of granite. Ironically, the toughest hole on the course isn't one of Lake Joe's roller-coaster specials, but the flat 11th, a numbing 451-yard par four that plays into the prevailing wind. An enormous slice of marsh covers the entire left side of the hole, bending in front of the green with fairway bunkers guarding the top of the landing zone. Most mortals will play it as a par five. The nine-hole Academy course is short, but fun for good players working on their wedge games.
