TOMB OF THE UNKNOWNS
Arlington National Cemetery

National Park Service The Tomb of the Unknowns (also known as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, although it has never been officially named) is a monument dedicated to American servicemen who have died without their remains being identified. It is located in Arlington National Cemetery in the United States. The "Unknown Soldier" of World War I is a recipient of the Medal of Honor, the Victoria Cross, and several other foreign nations' highest service awards. The U.S. Unknown Soldiers who were interred afterwards are also recipients of the Medal of Honor, presented by the U.S. presidents who presided over their funerals.

Arlington National Cemetery is located in Arlington, Virginia. The cemetery was established during the American Civil War on the grounds of Arlington House, formerly the estate of the family of Robert E. Lee's wife Mary Anna (Custis) Lee, a descendant of Martha Washington. The cemetery is situated directly across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. and near The Pentagon. More than 290,000 people are buried in an area of 624 acres (2.53 km2). Veterans and military casualties from every one of the nation's wars are interred in the cemetery.

Arlington House (Custis-Lee Mansion) and its grounds are administered by the National Park Service as a memorial to General Lee.

The Crowley Collection has larger galleries of some graves and monuments at Arlington National Cemetery: The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, graves of Supreme Court justices, graves of presidents John F. Kennedy and William Howard Taft, and Robert F. Kennedy. We also have images of the nation's war memorials as well as other Washington landmarks such as the National Air and Space Museum, Ford's Theatre National Historic Site, various historic buildings, and the Washington Nationals baseball team.

Permission to use our copyrighted photographs of the Kennedy gravesite can be obtained from The Crowley Collection for as little as $30US per scan. Scans of other sizes and resolutions can be ordered as required. Print media may obtain one-time use for between $70-100US per image.
