The United States Military Academy (also known as USMA, West Point, "The Point" or, for collegiate athletic purposes, Army) is a United States Army post and service academy. West Point was the first United States military post built after the Declaration of Independence. In its inception, it was under the command of Benedict Arnold. Established by Thomas Jefferson in 1802, it is the oldest military academy in the United States. Students are referred to as cadets. Collectively, graduates are known as "The Long Gray Line" because of the color of cadet uniforms and the unbroken line of West Point graduates.

One of the great traditions at West Point is Army Football. From its heyday of national championships and Heisman Trophy winners in the 1940s until today, a game at Michie Stadium featuring the Black Knights is a spectacle to behold. The game is normally preceded by the pageantry of the cadets on the parade ground. The campus, although more restricted to visitors than in the past, is a treasure trove of statues to some of America's greatest military leaders. Other campus attractions include the the West Point Museum, Chapel, Faculty Row, statuary (Generals Washington, McArthur, Sedgwick, and Bradley) and the "million dollar" view from Battle Monument to the Hudson River.
