Exeter Train Station Located in southeastern New Hampshire, Exeter has been an influential town since colonial times when it helped further the American fight for independence. This former colonial capital is home to Phillips Exeter Academy, one of the world's foremost preparatory schools and the real life backdrop to the romanbuilding novel A Separate Peace by John Knowles. Today, Exeter is home to such renowned authors as Dan Brown (The DaVinci Code)and John Irving (The World According to Garp). Among its many attractions is the town's war memorial sculpted in bronze by America's eminent artist Daniel Chester French, whose works include the statue of Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. History abounds here, with the American Independence Museum a major attraction that showcases the Folsom Tavern.
