The Connecticut Defenders is a minor league baseball team in the Eastern League based in Norwich, Connecticut. It is the double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. The Defenders play in Dodd Stadium (6,275), which is located in an industrial park on the outskirts of Norwich. The team began operation in 1995 as the Norwich Navigators (New York Yankees affiliate until 2002), but changed its affiliation in 2003 and its current name for the 2006 season.

One bright prospect is Madison Bumgarner, who was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the first round (10th overall) of the 2007 Draft. Prior to the 2009 season, Bumgarner was named Minor League Baseball's Most Spectacular Pitcher, the South Atlantic League's Most Outstanding Pitcher, South Atlantic League Midseason and post-season All-Star.
