Portland, Maine Eastern League (AA) |
The Portland Sea Dogs are the Double-A minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Established in 1994 and based in Portland, Maine, the Sea Dogs play in the Northern Division of the Eastern League. The Sea Dogs became part of the Red Sox system for the 2003 season; previously they were affiliated with the Florida Marlins. The change in affiliation brought success in the 2005 and 2006 seasons as the Sea Dogs went to the Eastern League championship series both years. They won their first title in 2006, defeating the Akron Aeros in a rematch of the championship series from the previous year. It was the first double-A championship for a Red Sox farm team since 1983 when they were based in New Britain, Connecticut. The Portland Sea Dogs play their homes games at Hadlock Field. It has a seating capacity of 7,368. In left field stands the Maine Monster, a 37-foot-tall facsimile of Fenway Park's Green Monster.
Although not much of a prospect, the Sea Dogs' loveable mascot Slugger the Sea Dog is every bit a part of the team. 2011 The 2011 Sea Dogs were gutted by major trades that brought Adrian Gonzalez and Erik Bedard to the Boston Red Sox. Left behind were prospects Alex Hassan, Jeremy Hazelbaker, Mitch Dening, and Oscar Tejeda. 2010 The 2010 Sea Dogs included such prospects as Casey Kelly, Luis Exposito, Jose Iglesias, Stephen Fife, Che-Hsuan Lin, Yamaico Navarro, Anthony Rizzo, Chih-Hsien Chiang, Nate Spears, and Félix Doubront. 2009 The 2009 Sea Dogs finished with a record of 67-74, which earned them fourth place in the Northern Division. It included prospects Mark Wagner, Lars Anderson, Jorge Jimenez, Luis Exposito, Josh Reddick, Ryan Kalish, Jason Place, and Bubba Bell. The Crowley Collection has images of the Sea Dogs' parent ballclub, the Boston Red Sox as well as the organization's Triple–A affiliate, the Pawtucket Red Sox of the International League, and Single–A affiliate in the New York–Penn League, the Lowell Spinners. The Crowley Collection also offers images of other professional baseball teams, including those in the American League (MLB), the National League (MLB), the International League (AAA), and the Eastern League (AA).
