In 2009, the Portland Sea Dogs finished with a record of 67-74, which earned them fourth place in the Northern Division. The highlight of the year was a 3-2 victory over the Bowie Baysox in the Futures Game at Fenway Park in August. Outfield prospect Jason Place hit a homerun in his first at bat. Place was the first-round selection of the Boston Red Sox in the 2006 draft. Other prospects on the 2009 Sea Dogs included Mark Wagner, Lars Anderson, Jorge Jimenez, Luis Exposito, Josh Reddick, Ryan Kalish, Bubba Bell and Félix Doubront.
