The Trenton Thunder are a minor league baseball team based in Trenton, New Jersey. The team plays in the Eastern League and is the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. The Thunder play in Mercer County Waterfront Park, located on the banks of the Delaware River. It opened in 1994 and seats 6,341 fans.
The Trenton franchise originated in upstate New York in 1980 as the Glens Falls White Sox. The Detroit Tigers took over the affiliation in 1985, the team called the Glens Falls Tigers. A move to London, Ontario took place in 1989. In 1994, the Thunder moved to Trenton, and kept the Detroit affiliation for a season before switching affiliations to the Boston Red Sox in 1995. As a Red Sox affiliate, the club recorded three first-place finishes. In 2003, the Thunder became aligned with the Yankees while the Red Sox did so with the Portland Sea Dogs. The 2009 Thunder roster included such prospects as Jesus Montero, Reegie Corona, and Chris Malec.
